The next Plenary Assembly of the Council of European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) will be held in Valletta (Malta) from 27 to 30 November, entitled “New steps for a synodal Church in Europe”.
The three main themes of the meeting will be.
– Cardinal Mario Grech, General Secretary of the Synod, will present the work of the 16th Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops “For a Synodal Church. Communion, Participation, Mission” and will offer indications on the work of preparation for the second part of the Synod to be held in October 2024.
– Cardinal Jean-Claude Hollerich, Archbishop of Luxembourg, CCEE Vice-President and General Relator of the Synod, will address the relationship between supranational structures and synodality for a new missionary thrust of the Church in Europe.
– Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś, Archbishop of Łódź, will give an update on the path taken by the working group to revise the Charta Oecumenica, the joint document on cooperation between the Christian Churches on the European continent that was signed in 2001 by CCEE and CEC (Conference of European Churches), and celebrated its 20th anniversary in 2021.
A detailed programme of work will be circulated in the coming days.
The Plenary Assembly will take place at the Grand Hotel Excelsior (Great Siege Road, Valletta, Malta, FRN 1810). In the hotel, a dedicated press office will be available for accredited journalists who wish to follow the proceedings.
The Council of the European Bishops’ Conferences (CCEE) consists of thirty-nine members, of which thirty-three are national Bishops’ Conferences. To these are added the Archbishops of Luxembourg, the Principality of Monaco, the Maronite Archbishop of Cyprus and the Bishops of Chişinău (Moldavia), the Eparchy of Mukachevo and of the Apostolic Administration of Estonia. Together, they represent the Catholic Church in as many as forty-five countries throughout the European continent.
